StorageTek(R) and Network Appliance Inc. this week announced that select StorageTek tape libraries are supported in the Network Appliance Fibre Channel Fabric Tape SAN Backup solution.
StorageTek and Network Appliance have jointly certified select StorageTek tape libraries with 9840 Fibre Channel tape drives to be used for data backup and recovery in a full Fibre Channel environment. StorageTek library management software allows multiple tape drive technologies to be utilized and tape library resources to be shared by multiple NetApp filers, other applications and servers.
“Network Appliance and StorageTek share the common goals of providing robust storage solutions for today’s data-intensive enterprises and advancing storage networking architectures,” said Mark Santora, Network Appliance senior vice president of Marketing. “With this new FC tape backup solution, we now address broader segments of the storage market with enhanced capabilities for both NAS and SAN deployments, in an effort to give our customers high data availability and protection.”
“Our participation in the Network Appliance Fibre Channel Tape SAN Backup solution enables us to provide our shared customers with a fully-tested backup solution for NetApp filers in a fabric environment,” said Gary Francis, StorageTek vice president and general manager, Automated Tape Solutions. “This now allows a full fibre based solution by exploiting the capabilities of the StorageTek 9840 Fibre Channel tape drive, the industry’s first native fibre channel tape drive.”
