AlphaStor Supports Legato Co-StandbyServer(TM)

AlphaStor(TM), a storage management software and services provider, announced that it has integrated its AlphaStor media management software with Legato’s(R) Co- StandbyServer(TM). The company said the integration means that, in the event of an NT server failure, AlphaStor will resume processing on another system without user involvement.

The AlphaStor suite is a next-generation enterprise media management software solution that provides expanded functionality to traditional backup applications. The company said its “out of the box” support for Legato NetWorker(R) enables NetWorker users to fully utilize and share existing tape device and library resources across multiple data zones, and to reduce costly downtime due to misplaced off-site tapes. By supporting Legato’s Co-StandbyServer, AlphaStor said it now provides additional benefits to NetWorker users.

Legato’s Co-StandbyServer utilizes Legato’s new data mirroring technology, enabling two functioning NT servers to fail over to each other in the case of operating system or hardware failure. In the case of such a failure, Co- StandbyServer migrates the applications, data, and users from the failed server to the mirrored server.
According to AlphaStor, the integration with Co-StandbyServer provides NetWorker users with highly available media and device management operations, ensuring the most effective use of their storage resources. AlphaStor’s Co- StandbyServer support also ensures that there is no single point of failure for NetWorker users utilizing AlphaStor. In the event of an NT server failure, the failover occurs transparently to the NetWorker backup application and without user involvement.

“NetWorker users have implemented AlphaStor software due to its extended functionality and tight integration with NetWorker,” said Denise Reier, vice president of Marketing for AlphaStor. “AlphaStor’s Co-StandbyServer support provides even tighter integration, allowing customers to ensure high availability across all aspects of their backup environment. Eliminating a single point of failure is extremely important for NetWorker users, and AlphaStor supports this goal.”
